Week Two
Week two was a very short week due to the weather conditions. However we had one session of EDET. In this session, we learned about how to set our class rules. Which for me it was quite enlightening. The teacher highlighted some pointers on how to go about setting up class rules. Which are as follows:- Be explicit.
- Straight to the point
- Shorter the beter
- For primary school students, five rules is appropriate.
We, also got the definition for a few terms:
- Internet- a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols.
- Etiquette - the customary code of polite behaviour in society or among members of a particular profession or group.
- Netiquette- the rules that have developed as people have begun to communicate and interact on the Internet.
- Digital Native -a person born or brought up during the age of digital technology and so familiar with computers and the Internet from an early age.
- Digital Immigrant - a person born or brought up before the widespread use of digital technology.
Here, are a few netiquette rules we got:
- Use a greeting always in your email.
- Have a ending or a closure.
- Font and Font size must be appropriate
- Use proper grammar, spelling, punctuation. etc.
- Re-read after you have created your email
- Have appropriate content to match subject
- Have a subject always
- Acknowledge receiving of an email
- Watch your tonation: Capitalization, bolding etc.
- Make sure your email address is appropriate.
- Signature
One Task we had to accomplish at home is create our signature, for email.
- Here is video showing how to go about adding your signature.
There wasn't any challenges that I faced this time around.
I learnt:
- That I am a digital immigrant not being born into the era before the widespread use of digital technology.
- To have proper netiquette when using the internet.
- How important it is to have rules in your class.
Here is some additional information.
Conclusion:
In the second week of Educational Technology, I've understand that classroom rules are important and that there are ways we should behave on the internet. I must say as well, I am enjoying this class so far and I always look forward to this class.
